This pot suffered a catastrophic explosion due to trapped moisture during bisque firing in December 2020. I saved the critical pieces, painted the details with underglaze, glazed just the interior, and rebuilt the missing areas with a self-curing epoxy clay. Finished with liquid gold leaf, this piece evokes the wabi-sabi philosophy, though it does not qualify as true kintsugi due to the alternative materials used. The juxtaposition of the soft matte look of unglazed porcelain and the metallic shine of the bright liquid gold leaf is visually stunning. He'll look right at home on a sunny windowsill.
